A placement worthy student may apply to 5 organizations, provided he/she goes through the entire process, for whichever company he/she is linked. The placement coordinator (PC) will take the student through the entire placement process by providing complete placement assistance based on the student’s performance in the specified number of interviews.
Students who have obtained an FPO (Final Placement Offer) from the companies where they have done SIP (Summer Internship Program) will have an option to join the same organization even after getting selected by some other company through campus placement provided there is substantial difference in the offer made in terms of profile and salary.
Placement worthy students will get placement assistance for getting selected in one of the 5 interviews that he/she can attend. A student can reject a maximum two companies for which he/she is short listed. If a student rejects two companies, it shall be assumed that he can arrange a better job for himself and will not be eligible for placement assistance thereafter.
Students should submit a soft copy of their bio-data (CV/Resume) in the prescribed format to the Director (Academics) for sending it to the organization, for every position they apply. The students should submit their bio-data within the prescribed time limit. PC Office will not accept/forward resumes submitted beyond the deadline.
Students are advised to keep sufficient copies of their resume, passport size photos, etc ready, so as to submit as per deadlines announced. At times, during campus interviews, companies may be interested in screening more candidates, hence extra copies of resume, photographs etc. should be kept handy.
Students are required to attach their up-to-date grade sheets. If an organization requests that up-to-date grade sheets be attached with the resume, PC shall forward only those resumes with the required information.
Once the Student Placement Committee announces the openings, the students should be in constant touch with the Committee to attend the selection processes, Written Test, Group Discussion, Interview/s, etc.
Students, if interested, may apply to organizations against only specified functional positions announced. The PC office shall not entertain applications/resumes of students who want to apply for hypothetical positions or for functional areas not announced.
Students with or without work experience, who are not interested in applying for management trainee/sales trainee/commercial trainee or any other positions/ designations as per the requirement from the companies, should not apply for such positions with an intention to negotiate later on for either a direct position or higher emoluments.
A student who seeks placement assistance and receives a Final Placement Offer (FPO) in any company and at any location should consider the offer as a firm offer. Such a student after having been selected shall not represent that he/she wanted to take the position only if the organization offered higher position or higher emoluments, etc. Such students shall be automatically excluded from the list of applicants and all other applications made by him/her to any other Company shall stand cancelled.
Short listing
Companies shall themselves short list the students on the basis of information applied by the students in their applications.
In case, a company insists that the Institute should do the short listing, it will be done by the PC on the basis of currently available grades, soft skills, aptitude and feedback from previous selection processes and also keeping in view the criteria set by the company including any basic or minimum requirements that may be relevant to the company.
Interview Procedure
A student is permitted to attend selection processes (placement opportunities) with a maximum of FIVE companies, prior to his/her accepting a job offer. However, the Placement Committee may temporarily suspend the placement assistance for all companies or certain category of companies, based on the student’s performance within the FIVE interviews that he/she attends.

Attend the selection processes comprising of written test/s, group discussion/s or interview/s as per the requirement of the company at locations specified by PC team after interaction with company executives. Such written tests, group discussions or interview/s shall be attended by the students at their own expense.
Students shall not, at the time of interview, negotiate with the employer about salary and terms different from what is announced, unless the announcement specifies that the salary is negotiable or unless informed as such by the PC team member before the selection process.
While answering questions in the interview, students should observe requisite decorum. They should abstain from making any kind of derogatory remarks about others. The behavior exhibited by the interviewees has at times reduced the opportunities.
Irresponsible behaviour, such as efforts to “market” oneself, derogatory remarks about other candidates or the Institute or any of the Constituents of the Institute/SMU, negotiations other than those purported under the due process or deliberate mistakes/ faults in the interviews (based on the company feedback) will be viewed seriously. Such students will be denied further placement opportunities and shall be removed from the placement assistance list permanently. In addition, they shall face disciplinary action as may be deemed fit by the concerned authorities.
After the preliminary interview, some organizations may want the selected students to go for a final interview at the company’s headquarters. The PC shall pass on the information received from the organization to the concerned students. The students are expected to make their own travel and other arrangements and also meet the expenses themselves. PC shall, however, ensure with the companies that adequate time is given to the students to attend the interview.

Withdrawal Procedure
A student can reject forwarding his/her CV to any company, only twice. If a student rejects the forwarding of CV a third time, then it will be assumed that he/she has withdrawn from the Placement Assistance and, from then on, will not be eligible for any further Placement Assistance. This is deemed to be equivalent to availing two placement opportunities.
All students who are eligible for the Placement Assistance must attend all the interviews arranged for them by the Institute in various companies. A student can reject a maximum of two selection processes in two companies. If he/she rejects or abstains from selection processes of more than two companies, he/she shall become ineligible for placement assistance. This is also deemed to be equivalent to availing two placement opportunities.
A student shall be allowed to make FIVE attempts with different companies to secure an FPO. If he/she is unable to secure FPO within FIVE attempts then automatically, he/she will be removed from the placement list. Under exceptional circumstances, relaxation under the clause may be allowed only with written approval by The Director/PC and the Director.
A student may be permitted to withdraw from the selection procedure of attending preliminary interview or selection processes if:
| • |
He/she explains in writing to PC the reasons for his/her need for withdrawal, and only if PC accepts this as truly exceptional and legitimate reason for withdrawal.
|
| • |
The PC is convinced that the withdrawal would not affect the Institute’s long term relationship with the interviewing organization
|
| • |
The student is able to convince the organizations’ executive of the reasons why he/she does not wish to be considered further by the organization. The same will be routed through the PC Office.
|
| • |
Such a withdrawal will be equivalent to availing one placement opportunity.
|
In case a student approaches an organization on his/her own, gets an offer and accepts the same, he/she will cease to receive further placement assistance from the Institute. This is to give a fair opportunity to all the students to get their own (Self-placed - SP) final placement offers.
Final Placement Offers (FPOs)
Students are permitted to receive a maximum of one job offer only. For e.g. - if a student has already accepted an FPO, he/she cannot attend another interview, even if it is within the limit of FIVE selection process.
All offers of a particular company shall be announced at the end of the selection process of that company. All offers shall be routed through PC only.
Students shall not:
Request any organization to keep an offer pending. Any such request shall be considered as a serious breach of the placement norms.
Request their future employers to allow extension of deadline for communication of their decision regarding offers made by an organization. Such a job offer shall be treated as a final placement offer and the student shall not be eligible for placement assistance thereafter.
All recruiting organizations shall be intimated about the placement rules of the Institute before the selection processes commence.
Miscellaneous
PC, in close coordination with the Director, shall aim at finding suitable jobs for all eligible graduating students. Placement shall be viewed as a facility extended to the students and not as a matter of their right.
| • |
These guidelines are framed to ensure equality and fairness of opportunity to all the students.
|
| • |
All students who opt for placement through PC shall abide by the guidelines prescribed herein above.
|
| • |
Any breach of rules specified above by any student, shall be viewed seriously by PC/PAT/SPC who in turn will examine the matter and take action against the student, as they deem fit.
|
| • |
Apart from existing penalties, the concerned student will be recommended to the Academic Council for taking disciplinary action and any other action that the PC/PAT/SPC deems necessary and in keeping with the gravity of the violation. In addition to this, PC reserves the right to stop placement assistance either permanently or for a limited time period.
|
| • |
Students shall not try to gain unauthorized access to communications regarding placements from the Institute’s/Centres’ administrative system like student placement committee, placement coordinator, academic staff, dispatch and fax office, etc.
|
| • |
Students shall not approach the visiting executives, either formally or informally, or in any way communicate with organizations regarding job opportunities announced by the PC. If a student does so without prior permission from PC, the student may be denied further placement assistance.
|
| • |
If, in the judgment of the PC, a student has behaved in a manner unbecoming of a graduate of the Institute, it would be free to impose a suitable penalty in the form of withdrawing further placement assistance to the concerned student and/or taking any other action as necessary.
|
| • |
At the discretion of the Director of the Institute and on a case-to-case basis, the Institute reserves the right to grant exemptions or additional placement assistance beyond the rules stated herein.
|
| • |
The Institute reserves the right to modify any or all of the above rules and/or stipulating additional rules for placement which, in its judgment and discretion, are likely to benefit the students, immediately or in the future.
