Life in Ahmedabad

Climate
Ahmedabad has a hot semi-arid climate. The weather is hot through the months of March to June the average summer maximum is 45 °C (113 °F) while the average minimum is 15 °C (59 °F) during the winters.
Food
Ahmedabad is a city of great food. The city is a foodie’s paradise. Gujaratis are predominantly vegetarians and vegetarian dishes are served commonly here but food in Ahmedabad is not restricted to vegetables. A variety of non vegetarian dishes in Indian, Chinese, Thai, Italian and Intercontinental flavors are easily available. The city has a variety of food joints from 5 star hotels to roadside food stalls, making it a great pleasure for foodies who love to dine out frequently.

Ahmedabad being an important commercial center, a wide variety of accommodation from expensive to budget is available for students. The students have an option to choose from hostels, paying guest accommodation, studio apartments and shared flats.
Transportation
Ahmedabad is one of the six operating divisions of the Western Railway. Railway lines connect the city to all towns in Gujarat, as well as major cities in India. The Ahmedabad Railway Station and the Mani agar Railway Station are the main terminals of the city.
The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport serves both domestic and international traffic. The airport connects the city with destinations across India and to various international destinations. National Highway 8 which connects Delhi and Mumbai passes through Ahmedabad.
Travelling within the city is possible with auto rickshaws, city buses and taxis. The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service runs the local bus service in the city. In addition to this there is BRTS which makes the commuting within the city very easy, quick and highly affordable.
Safety
Ahmedabad unlike many other cities can boast of a safe environment for females. Unlike many cities of India the women folks here can roam around safely even during the wee hours without being worried about their safety. Moreover as Gujarat is a dry state the city enjoys a very low crime rate.
People
The people of Ahmedabad are quite friendly and fun loving. They are basically regarded as spend thrift and love to enjoy the good things in life. In terms of hospitality you cannot expect a better host than a Gujarati family. Amdavadis rightly believes in the saying “Atithi devo bhava”.
Places for recreation
The heart of the city C.G.Road is place to be on Sundays. You will find a waiting in restaurants cross hundred on weekends. Clubs, Theatres & Picnic Spots in and around Ahmadabad are equally popular. Ahmedabad has highest number of Multiplexes coming up in whole of India. Three Water parks and many other destinations are equally popular.
It is a city of paradox. Where the ancient and the modern co-exist, minarets rub shoulders with temple spires and ancient institutions share space with air-conditioned shopping malls. Ahmedabad is known for its diversified culture and the celebration of various festivals like Uttrayan, Navratri, Diwali, Eid, and Christmas with great zeal which transcends demographic and religious lines. |
